SPC floors are made of four layers, and each one of them contributes to the amazing features that make this type of flooring so popular. In some cases, there are five layers, but one of them is optional. Let’s look into the different layers of SPC flooring and see what each one of them adds to the mix:
UV Layer
A UV layer is added so there are no worries or costs when it comes to maintenance and cleaning. There are some great benefits to this layer. One of them is stain resistance. You can rest assured that no stubborn stains will ruin the look of the flooring. Another one is that it’s waterproof. If you add the flooring in an area prone to humidity, then this protective layer can do wonders. It will prevent the water from ruining the floor – that’s why it’s so important to have this layer.
On top of that, it adds UV-resistance. Since it is resistant to ultraviolet light, the material will withstand the degradation that would otherwise occur from being exposed to the sun, for example. Without this layer, you risk having the flooring fail due to deterioration.
Wear Layer
The wear layer adds a much harder surface with at least 25%. It is the perfect protection for authentic colors and embossing. You’ll be able to tell which one is the wear layer because it will be the top coating on the floor, and it will be transparent.
Wear layers serve as a shield for the plank. Basically, a wear layer will make sure wear and tear are not affecting your floor. Usually, SPC flooring will have thick wear layer options so you can have the protection you desire. After all, the thicker the layer is, the better because the protection will increase as well. Thus, scratch protection and stain resistance are guaranteed.
Color Films
Color films are the ones giving your floor the nice aspect you’re searching for. The look of the flooring will be affected by this particular layer, as it can have its own pattern and color. PVC decorative films make it easy to get the perfect design in a room. They can even be developed based on your request if you have something specific in mind.
With color films, the appearance will be 100% natural. What makes everything even better is the fact that you can choose from multiple patterns. For instance, you can either settle for natural wood or stones, depending on what design you’re trying to achieve in a particular area.
SPC Core
SPC cores are the ones that make sure to prevent expansion and contraction due to temperature and humidity. The core is created in such a way that it’s not only stable but also waterproof, maintaining the good condition of the floor. As such, no matter how much water there is, the core will not swell. Even though it makes the floor feel less soft, at least it will be durable, which is amazing.
Foam or Cork (Optional)
In some cases, there is foam or cork added under the core of SPC flooring. This layer is sometimes included thanks to the effect it produces. It adds some amazing underfoot feeling, and it also adds some better sound absorption.
